Movie of the Week: Lola’s Cupcakes by the 2018 Reel Works Fellows
Lola’s Cupcake was written and directed by Mason Cummings, Reel Works Screenwriting Fellow. The film is about a young girl, Lola, attempting to cook for her school’s bake sale. Lola looks to her mother’s cookbook for guidance.“This film was inspired by my sister and I staging a food fight in our kitchen over the last cupcake in the refrigerator,” shared Mason Cummings. “Under the direction of Reel Works Fellows Filmmaker-In-Residence Elegance Bratton, I learned about screenwriting format, lighting for film, symbolism, intention, and what makes good filmmaking.”This film was produced directed and written by Mason Cummings (Screenwriter Fellow), produced by Devin Halbal (Producer Fellow). The film starred Mason’s younger sister, Lina Cummings. The Reel Works Fellows is made possible through the support of The Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation.
