How One-on-One Film Mentorship Transforms Young Storytellers: Kami Cooper's Journey

Meet Kami Cooper, a rising star in youth filmmaking and Reel Works Youth Ambassador. As a Taiwanese immigrant, Kami brought a unique cultural perspective to our Documentary Lab program, creating an innovative narrative about hip-hop culture that bridges diverse perspectives.

The Impact of Professional Film Mentorship

"I realized my process of figuring out how to make this documentary was kind of amusing from a third-person perspective," reflects Kami. Working closely with an experienced filmmaker-mentor, Kami discovered not just technical skills, but an authentic voice as a storyteller.

Kami's dedication culminated in a remarkable achievement: Best Editing at the 2024 Reel Works Film Festival.
