Meet Education Specialist Ebony Hatchett

Ebony Hatchett recently joined the Reel Works team as the new Education Specialist. Ebony is no stranger to Reel Works. Prior to joining us full-time, she taught as a Teaching Artist in 2019 and has led courses in Reel Works' Documentary Lab, MediaMKRS' Workforce Training, Paramount's "Take Action" Social Justice documentary course, and several Reel Works in School programs.

As a performer, Ebony toured Europe and the Americas as a member of the contemporary theatre company - Big Art Group.  As a filmmaker, Ebony has received several film festival official selections and awards for her 2020 directorial debut House of Yes, a documentary about NYC's premiere circus venue and its performers; and, Gray’s Bike Shop - another NYC profile documentary.

For Ebony, teaching is highly interactive and inspirational: “As Education Specialist at Reel Works, I feel that I am at a stage where I can learn more, about myself and others, than I can ever teach.”

Ebony uses her experiences to support Reel Work’s Teaching Artists as well as support the Reel Works in Schools program. Currently, Reel Work’s education team has launched 10 Reel Works in Schools courses, ranging from documentary, narrative, animation, and experimental programs. Our partner schools are located in diverse communities around NYC, including the Bronx, Queens, and several Brooklyn locations.

Reel Works is also a proud collaborator with fashion brand, Burberry, who provides support for two of our partner schools. This year’s Burberry theme is “Inspired People” - which is an all-encompassing theme for Ebony’s goals and work with the inspiring students of Reel Works!

Ebony looks forward to inspiring a future generation of filmmakers and storytellers!
