Marketing 101 with Media Career Pathways
Reel Works Media Career Pathways students participated in an enriching marketing 101 workshop led by Jenni Loo, Producer of Internal Productions, and Marisa Iovino, Communications Associate. The afternoon was lively with insights, interactive activities, and a shared passion for learning. Here’s more about the afternoon!
Jenni and Marisa kicked off the workshop by sharing their experiences working on Reel Works campaigns, such as the Film Festival and Year End Appeal. They introduced nonprofit marketing fundamentals, stressing the importance of tailoring campaigns to specific audiences. The session aspired to give students a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between media, marketing, and the nonprofit sector.
The workshop's highlight was when students put their newfound knowledge to the test by crafting and presenting original campaign ideas. This immersive activity empowered participants to create dynamic and structured marketing pitches tailored to meet the demands of today’s entertainment industry. Despite the constraints of time, each group delivered remarkable presentations, showcasing their creativity and strategic thinking.
Students channeled their imagination to inspire unique pitches. Brianna Nicole channeled Matthew McConaughey’s character from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. She said “When I learned I was going to roleplay as Matthew McConaughey’s character in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days I thought, ‘I got this!’ I quickly learned how instrumental storytelling is to a marketing pitch. The afternoon taught me how to organize and create a plan very thoroughly.”
The Media Career Pathways program at Reel Works provides comprehensive training experiences to equip students with tools and expertise to excel in their chosen fields. The program strives to provide students with knowledge of the media industry landscape, real-works skills, partial competencies, and, most importantly, confidence to succeed.
Joshua Martinez said, “Pitching to the studio and development team allowed me to realize that the clearer my idea is to me, the clearer I could market it to them. I also learned that through my team’s preparation, our enthusiasm and questioning of each other’s ideas, helped sharpen our final product so that I could more confidently convey our ideas during the pitch."
The depth and innovation displayed by the students reflects the possibilities of the Media Career Pathways program. We’re so proud of these students!
