From Professional Make-up Artist to Pride Committee Chair: Vadee’s Journey of Community and Purpose

Vadee, a Reel Works and IATSE Entertainment Industry Make-up Artist program alum, is redefining entertainment make-up artistry through his work with high-profile clients in the TV/Film world and his leadership in industry inclusion. His experience and connections led to his current IATSE Pride Committee Chairman role. We sat down with Vadee to explore his inspiration, commitment to authentic expression, and mission to champion the next generation.

Finding Your Path: Personal Leadership

The IATSE Entertainment Industry Make-up Artist program enabled Vadee to accelerate his career into the TV & Film world after 18 years in corporate education/makeup artistry nationally and on a global level. "The mentorship and training would have taken much longer to acquire on my own," he said.

Beyond technical skills, the program cultivates essential leadership and communication abilities in the media industry. Vadee built relationships with union leadership and senior IATSE officials through industry events and networking. His key lesson: "Treat every day like it's your first impression—be kind, you never know who you'll meet in this industry."

Connecting Communities: Beyond the Make-up Chair

As Pride Committee Chairman, Vadee leverages his experience with the relationships that he’s built in his previous life and creates new ones to unite industry professionals. His focus: creating pathways for LGBTQIA+ talent in entertainment make-up artistry.

"My intentions are to create an accessible community that represents everyone in our industry," Vadee explains.

Authentic Representation: A Deeper Mission

Vadee's vision extends beyond industry boundaries to create impact across the New York City and Tri-State area through youth outreach and education. "This role is about creating new pathways," he said. His commitment has sparked a collaboration with Reel Works to develop opportunities for emerging talent.

From Reel Works trainee to IATSE Pride Committee Chairman, Vadee demonstrates how mentorship transforms careers in the entertainment world. His dedication to LGBTQIA+ representation and youth education continues to shape the industry's inclusive future.
