Our Documentary Lab students are in the early stages of learning camera composition. We brought in Nick Krauss, a documentary cinematographer, and Dave Mayers, Producer on the HBO series VICE News Tonight to lead a workshop on filming cinéma vérité scenes for documentary. Krauss and Mayers have worked together on a variety of segments for VICE News and were able to bring that experience to the classroom in a hands-on way. In December, students will visit VICE for The Pitch, an essential benchmark in our Lab, where our student filmmakers pitch their stories in a professional setting and receive feedback as they move into production.

"So far it's been fun getting to know other people and having new experiences. Our teachers are great, I learned so much already. I enjoy going here every Monday and Tuesday because of the warm community." - Destinee Jolene Marcion, The Lab
