2021 marks the first graduating class of the MediaMKRS Career Exploration Program

Reel Works celebrated its first MediaMKRS Career Exploration graduation where 30 MediaMKRS students were recognized for their accomplishments. The students collectively completed 78 internships over the past 2+ years at companies such as AMC, Harbor Picture Company, NBCUniversal, CNN, HBO, ViacomCBS, Disney, and Showtime. The group was made up of CUNY students/alumni and Reel Works Alumni.

The ceremony featured keynote speakers and guests. Commissioner of the NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, Anne Del Castillo, shared an impactful message with our graduates and students attending the ceremony: “It's really amazing to see how the program has progressed since 2016. When we saw an initial proposal for the program, it was this idea to help local students secure jobs in media and entertainment...Here we are today with MediaMKRS program that has ramped up to serve nearly 250 New Yorkers across the city each year, who has already earned over 1000 badges in technical, workforce readiness and job completion.”

Guest speakers also included our partners at CUNY, Harbor Picture Company, and ViacomCBS who celebrated the graduates’ successes and shared industry insights and advice with them.

“These programs provide the resources and experience and time to kind of get to know the skills that you'll need in actuality in positions,” shared Dayo Harewood (VP, Group Creative Director at Viacom Velocity).
