A Call for Courage to Speak Out Against Injustice

Dear Reel Works Family and Friends,We are writing to you today in light of the current social-political climate to provide a reminder or rather a simple clarification. The state of our nation is one of fear and uncertainty. We live in a reality of oppressive forces that fight to silence others, from the deeply marginalized to those who simply disagree. Reel Works and those in its community will not fall victim to these tactics; persecution, abuse, brutality, and injustice are a weak man’s game and this community stands on the pillars of integrity.

Reel Works was founded on the prospect of equality for all students regardless of gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation to be able to create and learn. We strive and continue to provide a supportive environment that encourages and nourishes the growth of the individual and the artist. It is more important now than ever that we cultivate our strong voices and beliefs. Reel Works nor its community members will be silent on issues that threaten our fellow man.The common thread of all artists is a strong sense of courage; courage to create, courage to share, and courage to be vulnerable. We are living in a time where vulnerability is being turned into a target instead of a badge to wear with pride. Forces of injustice prey on those with the bravery to step forward and speak their truth.This letter is a reminder to never lose your voice and that your voice is your most powerful weapon.
