Academy Award Winning Producer and 2011 Reel Works Gala HonoreeFisher Stevens has had a long career as an actor, director and producer. Stevens has produced numerous documentaries including The Cove, for which he won the 2010 Academy Award for Best Documentary. He also co-directed Crazy Love, winner of the 2008 Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary. He has directed numerous short films on the U.N. Peace Keepers, as well as produced the documentaries Beware of Mr. Baker, Woody Allen: A Documentary, and currently Mission Blue, the story of Oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle. In 2011 he directed the Broadway show Ghetto Klown, staring John Leguizamo. In 2013 Stevens completed the feature film Stand Up Guys, staring Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, and Alan Arkin.

Star of HBO's The Newsroom and creator and star of the upcoming HBO series Doll & EmA talented and charming actress, Emily continues to challenge herself with a variety of roles that have captivated audiences. She has worked with some of the most legendary film directors of our era including Martin Scorsese in Hugo and Shutter Island and Woody Allen in Match Point. Emily's film credits include Harry Brown, Lars and the Real Girl, Our Idiot Brother, Lovely and Amazing and Bright Young Things. Our 2012 Gala Honoree, Emily continues to be an inspiration and support for Reel Works youth - teaching workshops, screening films, hosting set visits of The Newsroom and providing internships.

lisaLISA CORTÉS

Academy Award Nominated Producer and 2010 Reel Works Gala HonoreeLisa Cortes has had a rich and varied career in entertainment, working with such groundbreaking companies as Def Jam Records, Rush Artist Management, and Lee Daniels Entertainment. Her passion and strength lies in identifying, then giving light to, expressive voices not often heard and stories not often told. After reading Sapphire's novel Push in 1996, Cortés was tremendously moved by the powerful message and knew it had to be translated to the big screen. The result? 2009's captivating hit film Precious, which received six Academy Award nominations and two wins.  Most recently, as president of Cortés Films she produced and co-directed the documentary, Imagine A Future.

alessandroALESSANDRO NIVOLA

Actor/ProducerAlessandro has starred in many films including Lisa Cholodenko's Laurel Canyon (which earned him an Independent Spirit Award nom), Junebug, Coco Before Chanel, Ginger and Rosa, Mansfield Park, Kenneth Brannagh's Love's Labour's Lost, Best Laid Plans, and Face/Off among many others. He is currently starring on Broadway in Terence Rattigan's The Winslow Boy. His upcoming films include Atom Egoyan's Devil's Knot opposite Reese Witherspoon, and David O. Russel's American Hustle which is set for a December release. He and his wife Emily Mortimer established King Bee Productions two years ago and he has since then produced Doll & Em an HBO series written by and starring Ms. Mortimer.

ANDREW ROSENTHAL

Creator of the F. John Outcalt Award for Outstanding Filmmaking, The William S. and Barbara B. Rosenthal Family FoundationThe F. John Outcalt Award is named in loving memory of Forman John Outcalt, a film and theatre director and producer and, for over eighteen years, the adored partner of Andrew R. Rosenthal. John Outcalt's life and career in film and theater in New York was rooted in his community and passion for life.

ABOUT REEL WORKS

Since 2001, Reel Works is a Brooklyn based non-profit that provides a free after-school filmmaking program continuum for NYC teens. Using a unique one-on-one mentoring model, we challenge at-risk youth to tell their stories and have their voices heard. In turn, they build vital skills of literacy, leadership and self-confidence to create productive futures.
