Last year we welcomed Education Director, Laurel Gwizdak to the team and had many successes across all our programs!  This school year, we find ourselves rapidly growing and we're excited to begin the search for an Education Specialist to help strengthen the team as we begin recruitment for the newest crop of kids to join the Fall 2013 Lab!Each fall and spring, we select 14 diverse and talented teens - and 14 professional filmmakers - from across New York City for the six-month workshop. The Lab challenges each student to write and develop a personal documentary story on a subject of his or her choice. Students learn writing, storytelling, basic camera, lighting, sound and Final Cut Pro editing as they put their ideas into action to create original short films. The course culminates in a gala screening to friends, family and the community.  Check out the video below to for a front seat to the Spring 2013 Screening at Time Warner that took place on July 18th.[vimeo:https://vimeo.com/71117394]Films created in The Lab have been seen by over 8 million viewers worldwide, have earned five Student Emmys and have been featured on CNN, World News Tonight and the Oprah Winfrey Show. Thousands of New Yorkers watch our films each week on Reel Works With Byron Hurt on NYC-Life. In 2008, The Lab was honored at the White House by the President's Council on the Humanities as one of the top arts programs in the country. If you know of a NYC teen that should be part of Reel Works, send them our way!  Visit us online at www.reelworks.org to fill out an application!  DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 4, 2013.
