The Pitch at Reel Works

For a filmmaker, being a great storyteller isn't enough.  To get your film made, you have to learn to pitch your idea and generate excitement so others will help you realize your dreams.  That's why all our Lab students have to pitch their documentary ideas to TV executives in order to get approval to make their films.Last December, the fourteen students of our Fall 2012 Lab workshops presented their story ideas to executive a VIACOM: amazing stories about gang life, living in a NYC shelter, stop & frisk, and the struggle to overcome adversity and prejudice.  Each filmmaker received feedback and support by professional producers and ideas about how to use the power of filmmaking to tell their stories.

"I was nervous for the pitch, but my mentor really helped me prepare.  Afterwards, I left feeling confident and I had so many new ideas for my film!" - Star Cummings
