The Documentary Lab

MAKE A FILM! WORK WITH A PRO! TELL YOUR STORY!

The Documentary Lab is an intensive, 24-week after-school filmmaking workshop offered to high school students in NYC. This is a free introductory course to documentary filmmaking and no previous filmmaking experience is necessary. Students will be paired 1:1 with a professional filmmaker mentor to plan, shoot, edit and present a short personal film about their lives and communities. The course culminates in a special screening of student works. Applicants will be interviewed before entering the program, as we have limited spots.

This workshop is a hybrid program that will meet online and in-person at Reel Works' office in Gowanus, Brooklyn. If students are not able to meet in person, we can make accommodations for them. Reel Works will be following the COVID-19 guidelines and recommendations put forth by nyc.gov.

Workshop Dates: The Doc Lab begins October 30, 2023 and runs until May 7th, 2024 every Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 - 6:30 PM.
