Program Manager, MediaMKRS

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reel Works is hiring a temporary, part-time Program Manager to contribute to the development, implementation, and management of our MediaMKRS Career Development programs in Los Angeles and New York City.

Location: This position requires candidates to be based in the New York City Metro area, with the flexibility of a hybrid office environment. The physical office is located in Brooklyn, NY.

Reports To: Keisha Katz, Director of Workforce and External Partners

Compensation: Part-time 25-30 hours per week; $34-$39/hour

Estimated Start Date: July 1, 2024

Estimated End Date: Dec 31, 2024; with the possibility of extension

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Reel Works mentors, inspires and empowers underserved NYC youth to share their stories through filmmaking, creating a springboard to successful careers in media and beyond. Using a unique, one-on-one mentoring model, Reel Works builds vital skills of literacy, leadership, and self-confidence to create productive futures for youth.

The MediaMKRS program was launched by Reel Works in 2019 to address the crisis of inclusion in the media industry. MediaMKRS is a consortium of industry and education leaders that aims to diversify the media landscape and create equitable solutions by bringing together industry leaders, educators, and government officials to train and credential rising talent. THE POSITION

Under the supervision of Keisha Katz, Director of Workforce and External Partners, the Program Manager will support the mission and vision of Reel Works and Aid in the overall design, curriculum development, budget creation, and implementation of career development programs, in collaboration with the Reel Works team, and union and employer partners. If you are highly organized, able to multitask and prioritize, comfortable with taking ownership of multiple projects, self-sufficient and able to manage small teams, experienced in TV/Film production, and are interested in our mission to provide job opportunities to underrepresented communities, we would like to meet you!

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Program Development and Management (75%):

  • Work with union and employee partners to execute training programs

  • Support hiring instructors for program

  • Provide support of all career development program instructors including overseeing payroll, transportation / travel, logistics and communication, working closely with the Finance & Operations Coordinator.

  • Manage recruitment of trainees with recruitment coordinator in three round application process

  • Own all details needed for in-person and virtual training classes related to instructors, rentals / equipment, materials, locations, etc.

  • Manage the Career Development Program Coordinator in the support of all program participants and graduate communication and coordination requirements

  • Work closely with On-Site Coordinators to ensure successful execution of program needs before, during and after the training, including but not limited to ordering and maintaining supplies needed for each class, sourcing and confirming guest speakers, confirming venue and insurance requirements, supporting catering needs, etc.

  • Manage on-site coordinator to attend in-person classes and potential weekend work to assist with on-site logistics and the organization of the program in support of participants, union, and employer partners. Attend in-person classes as needed.

Administrative and Budget Management (25%)

  • Attend and support the execution of program-related meetings and events

  • Prepare and continuously update program reports, presentations and proposals, and funder materials and support the assessment and evaluation processes of the program

  • Oversee the financial aspects of the programs, including the creation and actualization of budgets, payment of invoices, union and non-union payroll, etc

  • Support management and review of the overall Career Development program budget

  • Provide administrative support for the Career Development program as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

THE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE

  • 4-6 years in a coordinator or management position in the Entertainment/TV/Film Production industries and familiarity with various crew positions, including their general roles and responsibilities

  • Familiarity with NYC-based vendors and equipment for program needs

  • Familiarity with budgets and payroll systems, Entertainment Partners specifically a plus 

  • Proficient in Google Apps [Drive, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, Hangouts and Mail] and experience with tools such as Zoom, Salesforce, Typeform

  • Experience and passion for inclusion and working effectively with a diverse group of people including experience working with BIPOC communities

  • Experience working with individuals with barriers to employment, preferred
