“Season of Giving” with ViacomCBS

Reel Works Documentary and Narrative Lab students participated in the ViacomCBS “Season of Giving” online event on December 6th. This volunteer day brought together employees at ViacomCBS who used their expertise to give advice, guidance, and feedback to our young filmmakers.

Jayvyn Pridgeon, a Reel Works Documentary Lab student, shared what he enjoyed most about the event: "It was very easy going, they all seemed to like my film pitch! The volunteers who gave me feedback said I was able to share the most relevant information out in my pitch and I was really encouraged."

Students also had the valuable opportunity to learn about different career paths by talking with industry professionals in small groups about the steps they took to succeed in their media careers. This helped demystify the reality of working in the media industry.

Another student, Eva Tikhomirova shared, "It was a bit nerve-racking talking to people who have already gotten to where I want to be. I wanted to do my best but it's really hard when I’m talking to people about my film. Overall it was fun, it was a good experience to have, and I wouldn't take it back!”

We want to give a special thank you to Adam Robinson, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at ViacomCBS, and all the Responsibility & Community Investment team at ViacomCBS for making a huge impact on our students this year.
