Reel Works Welcomes Spring Lab 2015!

IMG_1378Last Saturday, 13 exceptional students were selected from over 60 applicants to join the Spring 2015 Lab. Only two days into the class, this Lab has already set itself apart. “They are such an engaged group!” said Peer Mentor, Jhovanny Bisono, "They tackle every activity with so much enthusiasm!"In their second class, students delved into their story ideas for the first time. Many were surprised to find so much common ground with their peers - from living with a single parent to enduring bullying at school to learning English as a second language. The students shared themes of heartbreak, isolation and loss, but also of positive-thinking, courage and resilience. After learning about Aristotelian story structure, students worked together to develop the key components of their stories: their essential questions, goals and obstacles, as well as the insights they hope to share with the world.IMG_1381“Everyone is really paying attention to each other’s ideas,” said Spring Lab student Kenneth Champion, “we are giving and receiving really good feedback and helping each other shape and enhance our story ideas.”At the end of class, The Fall 2014 Lab visited the new Lab to talk about their experience. “The process of reflecting so much on your life can be hard,” said Fall Lab student, Catherine Robinson. “but it will definitely bring you together.”IMG_1383
