Insights into the Post-Production Industry with The Mill!
Reel Works was excited to work with The Mill this November to provide our students with unique insights into the post-production industry. The Mill visited our classes to share about different parts of the process including planning, editing and VFX.
They then hosted 42 Reel Works students at their Manhattan office. Students participated in workshops focused on producing, editing, cinematography, VFX, and color. Ahamed Diallo, a Directing Fellow, was part of the color workshop. “It was a great experience. The coloring presentation was informative. The presentation shared many details about coloring I never knew before, including the software I hope to try out in the future.”
Students were able to go more in-depth in topics they are covering in their Reel Works classes and learned about the different possibilities available in the industry. Freya Patel, a Producing Fellow, shared “It was really cool meeting a different type of producer, aka the VFX producers. It’s cool to see how producer roles differ in some places and are the same in others.”
The students had a great experience visiting The Mill and learning more about the media industry from working professionals. Jade Ramirez, an Editing Fellow, said “I really enjoyed visiting The Mill. I felt very lucky to be able to have such a great opportunity to be exposed to professionals in the film field that I am interested in.”
The experience of meeting industry professionals helps to make these careers more tangible and fosters connection between the classroom and career paths. “I could tell the presenters were enthused to speak with us, which made it a very welcoming environment.” Ahmed shared. We are very thankful to the professionals at The Mill who gave their time to teach these workshops and appreciate their support of our students.
