Meet Kayla, Career Development Recruitment Coordinator
Kayla Scott recently joined Reel Works as the Recruitment Coordinator with the MediaMKRS Career Development team to drive trainee outreach objectives. Her mission is to increase awareness about the various programs and bring in applicants that have been previously underrepresented in the media and entertainment industry.
“We are so thrilled to have Kayla on our team! In the first few months that she has been working with us we have already seen a large increase in applicants across the board and have made valuable connections with other local organizations and schools to increase our outreach,” said Cameron Amstater, Career Development Program Manager. “We’re especially proud that our recent cohorts of Shop Craftspeople and Grips for union trainings were diverse in many ways - race, age, and gender. We accepted 50% or more non-male trainees in two extremely male-dominated fields. The Career Development programs are growing quickly and we could never manage this without Kayla’s hard work and dedication.”
Kayla, an alumnus of the Reel Works Summer Lab 2013 and Master Lab, jumped at the opportunity to work with Reel Works as a Recruitment Coordinator having felt the impact of being a part of the community herself.
Kayla shared, “my experience with Reel Works has been one of mentorship. It made working in the media industry a reality, continuing to be a home base I can return to for support in my career.”
After attending Reel Work’s After School Programs as a teen, she studied Animation at the School of Visual Arts. When her interest in post-production began to grow, Reel Works recommended her to the Made In NY Post Production Training. She went on to combine her interest with an internship at a female-led stop-motion animation studio, Mighty Oak as a Post-Production Intern and then as an Operations Coordinator for a Post Production facility.
Outside the office, Kayla spends her time cuddling and napping with her Pitbull, Honey.
